Babies age six to nine months tend to bang anything that they could reach. At this age babies enjoy holding, banging, dropping and throwing toys – and having you retrieve them! Here’s suggested toys for babies aging six to nine months.
Drop Toys: Best toys to use for drop toys are stuffed pillows, stuffed animals, beanbags, and other easy-to-grasp objects. At this age kids enjoy playing the drop-and-retrieve game, play with her as long as you can stand it.
Banging Toys: Get items that produce loud sound when you hit them such as pots, pans, bowls and wooden spoons and let your baby bang away. Just make sure that you are within visible distance with your baby while playing with these things. Check also the safety of the items before giving it to your baby to play with.
Balls: Give your baby a variety of balls of different sizes. She will be learning to hold them, roll them, kick at them, and hit them. These activities will help her develop her gross motor skills. Try texture balls, rubber balls, musical balls, squeaky balls, and soft fuzzy balls. Have your baby sit propped up, and roll the ball toward her. Show her how to bat it, kick it, and roll it. Encourage your baby to chase a rolling ball, which gives her practice crawling.
Blocks: At this age your baby is learning properties of blocks, aside from their taste and texture. Your baby may start to stack them and knock them over. Show her it is done. Start with large, colorful, soft blocks, and then move to smaller wooden blocks or plastic ones as your baby grows and develops.
